by Anton Alexander, Graf von Auersperg (1806 - 1876), as Anastasius Grün

Mara
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf und nieder wallt Schön Mara
An des Donaustrands Gestade,
In den Donau-spiegel schaut sie,
Und sich selber drin erschaut sie.

"Gottes Wunder, Gottes Gnade,
Wie bin ich doch gar so schöne!
Meine schönen, schwarzen Augen
Alle Bursche mir bezaubern,

"Sie bezaubern alle Bursche,
Sie vernichten alle Bursche
Nebst dem türkschen Harambassen,
Der dort trabt durch Kriegesmassen,
Der durch Kriegesmassen wallet,
Blanken Säbel umgeschnallet!"

Confirmed with Anton Alexander, Graf von Auersperg, Volkslieder aus Krain, Leipzig: Weidmann'sche Buchhandlung, 1850, page 21.
