by Catulle Mendès (1841 - 1909)

L'ennemie
Language: French (Français)
Ô toi ma vie, ô toi mes cieux,
Je hais ton front, je hais ta lèvre
Et tes yeux qui donnent la fièvre
Comme des lacs pernicieux.

Je maudis mon âme asservie
Dans tes profonds cheveux de jais,
Et, tout entière, je te hais,
Ô toi mes cieux, ô toi ma vie!

Mais non, je mens, tu le sais bien ;
Mon être a dans toi ses racines.
Et vainement tu l'assassines
Et tu le damnes, il est tien.

J'aime ton front, tes yeaux, ta joue
Ô mon enfer, ô mon trépas,
Et tes cheveux qui ne sont pas
De ces liens qu l'on dénoue.

Le mal m'est doux, le joug m'est cher,
Et jusqu'au jour du cimetière
Je t'adorerai tout entière,
Ô mon trépas, ô mon enfer !
