by Peter Cornelius (1824 - 1874)

Nachts, wenn Du in die Sterne schaust
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nachts, wenn Du in die Sterne schaust,
Und schickst die Sehnsucht wandern,
Der Du die goldnen Brücken baust
Von einem Stern zum andern,
Und wenn Dein Blick das Sternlein trifft,
Das wir für uns erwählet,
Dann sagt es Dir in goldner Schrift,
Was ich ihm just erzählet:
Daß mir ein liebes Antlitz fern,
In dem zwei Sterne blitzen,
Wo unter freiem Himmel gern
Ich ewig möchte sitzen,
Daß ich mir Sehnsuchtsbrücken bau
Und streifen will und wandern,
Bis ich in meinen Himmel schau,
Von einem Stern zum andern.
