Geht durch die Nacht in ew'ger Bahn,  
Wohl seid ihr euch unendlich ferne,
Doch blickt ihr euch so freundlich an.  

Wir aber gehn hier in der Irre
Auf dunkeln Wegen ohne Licht;  
Wir suchen uns in Angstgewirre,
Und finden, ach, einander nicht. 

Und die sich gerne würden lieben
Von ganzem Herzen unverwandt,
Die mußten sich so schwer betrüben, 
Und haben sich so tief verkannt.
