Zonne, als 'k in mijn groene blaren
en vol waterpeerlen sta
en dat gij komt uitgevaren,
schouwt mijn bloeiend herte u na.
Throonend op den throon gezeten
van den rooden dageraad,
wilt het blomke niet vergeten,
dat naar u te wachten staat.
 
Langs die hooge hemelpaden,
zonne, nimmer klemmens moe,
volge ik u, van zoo 'k mijn bladen
met den morgen opendoe:
komt en zoekt mijn herte en vindt het,
u behoort het, te alder tijd,
u verwacht het, u bemint het,
die mijn hemelminnaar zijt.
 
's Avonds, als het wordt te donkeren,
als ge in 't gloeiend westen daalt,
schouw ik naar uw laatste vonkelen
[zinkend]1 met u nederwaard.
Hangende op mijn staal gebogen,
weene ik toen den nacht rondom,
van u niet te aanschouwen mogen:
kom toch weêre, o zonne, kom!
