Tief in Trauerflor verhüllt.

  Wonnezeit!
Ach! umstrahlt von Frühlingsmilde,
Froh in Tempe's Lichtgefilde,
Lebt' ich dir, o Zärtlichkeit!
  Wonnezeit!

  Thränen fließt!
Thauend, wie die kleine Quelle
Rieselnd, perlend, Well' an Welle
Über Blumen sich ergießt.
  Thränen fließt!

  Alles schweigt! 
Kaum, daß, in des Westes Flüstern,
Unterm Schattendach des düstern
Tannenhains, der Halm sich beugt.

  Holder Traum!
Fliehe nicht auf Rosenflügeln;
Weile an des Baches Spiegeln;
Such nicht des Äthers Raum!

Ah! entourée de la douceur du printemps, 
Joyeuse dans le paysage lumineux de Tempé, 
Je te vivais, ô tendresse !

   Coulez larmes ! 
En rosée, comme la petite source 
Ruisselant, perlant, vague après vague 
Se déverse sur les fleurs.

   Tout se tait ! 
C'est à peine si, dans le chuchotement du ponant 
Sous le toit ombragé et odorant 
Du bois de sapins, une brindille bouge.
   Tout se tait !

   Gracieux rêve ! 
Ne t'enfuis pas sur tes ailes de roses ;
Attends près du miroir du ruisseau ;
Ne cherche pas les espaces éthérés !

   Disparu!...
Ainsi s'enfuit devant le baiser de Psyché
