by Hermann Allmers (1821 - 1902)

Der alte Name
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es steht ein alter Name
An einen alten Baum,
Bemoost und ganz verwachsen,
Und man erkennt ihm kaum.

Der Baum, der grünet und duftet,
Streut jährlich Blüthen herab;
Die Hand, die den Namen geschnitte,
Sie modert lange im Grab.

Und Alle gehen vorüber
Und sehn den Namen nicht an,
Nur oft an sonnigen Tagen
Wankt still eine Alte heran.

Die streichelt mit dürren Händen
Den Namen und seufzet für sich:
"Ihr schönen, ihr seligen Zeiten!"
Und weinet dann bitterlich.

Confirmed with Dichtungen von Hermann Allmers, Bremen: J. G. Heyse's Verlag, 1860, page 56.
