Einsam um Mitternacht

Das Reich der Nacht ist aufgethan,
  Des Mondes Zauber wirkt,
Und unabweisbar grinst mich an,
  Was heller Tag verbirgt.

Die Nacht ist nur der Liebe hold, 
  Nicht dem der lieb-los wacht: 
So denk', o Herz, an Lockengold,
  An Wangenrosenpracht! 

Wohl manches Lieb' wähn' ich zu seh'n,
  Manch' süßes Mädchenbild:
Ach, daß so kalt vorbei sie geh'n,
  Verschleiert und verhüllt! 

Es kam mir nie so klar zu Sinn,
  Wie jetzt bei Sternenschein,
Daß ich so ganz unglücklich bin,
  So ganz, so ganz allein!
