Und treibt seine Wogen himmelwärts 
Zu wildem Ringen zu Kämpfen schwer --
So ging deine Liebe durch mein Herz.

Es rangen sich aus dem tiefsten Schooß 
Der Schlamm, die Schlacken, das Felsgestein, 
Auch viele Perlen, rein und groß,
Gebete, Thränen und Lieder mein.

Es schwieg der Sturm, es ruhte das Meer,
Und freundlich lachte das Himmelszelt,
Und aus den Wassern stieg licht und hehr
Empor eine neu erkämpfte Welt.
