An Mignon

Language: German (Deutsch)

Über [Thal und Fluß]1 getragen,
Ziehet rein der Sonne Wagen.
Ach, sie regt in ihrem Lauf,
So wie deine, meine Schmerzen,
Tief im Herzen,
Immer morgens wieder auf.

Kaum will mir die Nacht noch frommen,
Denn die Träume selber kommen
Nun in trauriger Gestalt,
Und ich fühle dieser Schmerzen,
Still im Herzen,
Heimlich bildende Gewalt.

Schon seit manchen schönen Jahren
Seh' ich unten Schiffe fahren;
Jedes kommt an seinen Ort;
Aber ach, die steten Schmerzen,
Fest im Herzen,
Schwimmen nicht im Strome fort.

Schön in Kleidern muß ich kommen,
Aus dem Schrank sind sie genommen,
Weil es heute Festtag ist;
Niemand ahnet, daß von Schmerzen
Herz im Herzen
Grimmig mir zerrissen ist.

Heimlich muß ich immer weinen,
Aber freundlich kann ich scheinen
Und sogar gesund und roth;
Wären tödtlich diese Schmerzen
Meinem Herzen,
Ach, schon lange wär ich todt.

Aan Mignon

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Over dal en stroom gedragen,
Trekt de zon blank in haar wagen.
Ach, zij roept in haar non-stop
Naast de jouwe ook mijn droefheid,
Die het hart splijt,
Elke morgen steeds weer op.

Nauw'lijks wil de nacht nog helpen,
Daar mij dromen overstelpen
Nu met treurnis die mij kwelt,
En ik voel van deze droefheid,
Die in 't hart snijdt,
't Stiekem groeiende geweld.

Al zovele mooie jaren
Zie 'k beneden schepen varen,
Alle komen op hun plek;
Maar helaas, mijn eeuw'ge droefheid,
Die zich vastbijt,
Drijft in de rivier niet weg.

Mooi gekleed, ja, moet ik komen;
't Pak is uit de kast genomen,
Daar 't vandaag een feestdag is;
Geen kan raden, dat door droefheid,
't Hart der hartheid
Wreed in mij gebroken is.

Heim'lijk moet ik steeds maar huilen,
Maar dat kan ik goed verschuilen:
Ik lijk leuk, zelfs kwiek en rood;
Was zij dood'lijk, deze droefheid
Waarmee 't hart strijdt,
Ach, al lang was ik dan dood.
