Was kommt gezogen auf Traumesflügeln?
Was weht mich an so bang, so hold?
Es kommt gezogen von fernen Hügeln,
Es kommt auf bebendem Sonnengold.
Wohl lispeln die Winde, die Vögelein,
Das Sehnen, das Sehnen, es schläft nicht ein.

Ils chuchotent pour que le monde dorme.

Vous, les désirs, qui êtes toujours agités
Dans le cœur sans repos ni paix !
Toi, la nostalgie, qui émeut la poitrine,
Quand trouverez-vous le repos, quand dormirez-vous ?
Dans le murmure des vents, des petits oiseaux,
Vous, désirs ardents, quand trouverez-vous le sommeil ?

Que va-t-il arriver porté par les ailes du rêve ?
Qu'est-ce qui me rend si anxieux, si doux ?
Cela vient des collines lointaines,
Cela vient des reflets de l'or du soleil,
Le vent, les petits oiseaux chuchotent agréablement,
Le désir, le désir ne s'endort pas.

Hélas, quand dans le lointain doré cessera
Mon esprit de se hâter sur les ailes des rêves,
