Die Wolke wird mein Flügel,
Ein Vogel fliegt mir voraus.

Doch du und die Lüfte, ihr habt kein Haus.

Der Sonnenblume gleich steht mein Gemüte offen,
Sehnend,
Sich dehnend
In Lieben und Hoffen.
Frühling, was bist du gewillt?
Wenn werd' ich gestillt?

Die Wolke seh' ich wandeln und den Fluß,
Es dringt der Sonne goldner Kuß
Mir tief bis in's Geblüt hinein;
Die Augen, wunderbar berauschet,
Tun, als schliefen sie ein,
Nur noch das Ohr dem Ton der Biene lauschet.
Ich denke dies und denke das,
Ich sehne mich, und weiß nicht recht, nach was:
Halb ist es Lust, halb ist es Klage;
Mein Herz, o sage,
Was webst du für Erinnerung
In golden grünen Zweige Dämmerung?

Au printemps

Me voici, là, étendu sur la colline en son printemps ;
ce nuage m'est une aile,
un oiseau me précède.
Ah, dis-moi, mon unique amour, 
où tu te poses, que je me pose à tes côtés ?
Mais tu n'as pas plus de logis que l'air.

Tel un tournesol, je sens mon coeur grand ouvert,
plein de désirs, 
dilaté
par l'amour et l'espoir.
Printemps, que veux-tu donc ? 
Quand trouverai-je la sérénité ?

Je regarde courir les nuages et couler l'onde de la rivière.
La baiser d'or du soleil
 me pénètre jusqu'au sang ;
mes yeux émerveillés se ferment
comme dans le sommeil.
Seule mon oreille perçoit encore le bourdonnement d'une abeille.
Mes pensées vagabondent ça et là ;
j'aspire à quelque chose, mais je ne sais pas bien quoi,
mi-plaisir, mi-plainte...
Oh ! Dis-moi, mon coeur, 
quel souvenir tisses-tu 
avec les rameaux verts de ce crépuscule doré ?
--Ah ! L'indicible des jours anciens !
