Wat zijn jullie vrolijk en fris en vrij
met jullie trillende morgenkoren
Het wordt me vreemd te moede
als ik het hier beneden hoor.

Eventjes sluip ik naar buiten
in jullie vrolijke zomerhuis
en voel me beklagenswaardig
jullie leven er maar dag en nacht
op los.

Jullie zoeken het groene bladerdak
de wazige weiden, de beekjes
jullie ontvluchten stad en muur
en laten de mensen zuchten
in hun vogelkooi.
