Quellende, schwellende Nacht

Language: German (Deutsch)

Quellende, schwellende Nacht,
Voll von Lichtern und Sternen:
In den ewigen Fernen,
Sage, was ist da erwacht?

Herz in der Brust wird beengt;
Steigendes, neigendes Leben,
Riesenhaft fühle ich's weben,
Welches das meine verdrängt.

Schlaf, da nahst du dich leis',
Wie dem Kinde die Amme,
Und um die dürftige Flamme
Ziehst du den schützenden Kreis.

Nachtlied

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Wellende, zwellende nacht,
Vol van lichten en sterren:
In het eeuwige verre,
Zeg ons, wat wint daar aan kracht?

't Hart in mijn borst voelt beklemd;
Stijgend en neernijgend leven,
Kolossaal voel ik het weven;
't Mijne wordt daardoor geremd.

Slaap, daar nader je zacht,
Als een voedster de kleine,
En om de vlam die wil kwijnen
Vorm je beschermend de wacht.
