Serenad
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Available translation(s): ENG FIN FRE GER
Snart skall hon bäddens trygga fristad hinna;

Serenade
Language: English  after the Swedish (Svenska)
The fire (extinguished) is the lamp in my girl’s room,
A bleak moonglow reflecting on the window is the only flame
And through the curtain, fastened to it, I see
The beautiful image no more.
Soon, the bed’s safe sanctuary she’ll reach;
Look, shy Cynthia, be my spy,
And please kindly reveal what you saw
To me and the night alone.
If with a glance, which is lit from heaven,
She clasps her hands and weeps
And speaks words that only an angel hears,
Her evening prayers are said.
But if the veiled bosom stirs and quivers,
If a smile on the rosy lips floats,
And her cheek begin to blush,
Then she dreams of me.
