Betet still im Gras für sich;
Rose hebt die süßen Augen
Und die rothen Lippen hauchen
Ein Gebet demüthiglich.

  Sonntag ist's. Ein heil'ger Frieden
Liegt auf Erden weit, so weit.

All brooklets flow quietly,
All birds greet us blissfully,
And from far away the bell sounds.

  It is Sunday. At the fence the lily
Quietly prays by itself in the grass;
The rose lifts its sweet eyes,
And humbly its red lips
Breathe a prayer.

  It is Sunday. A holy peace
Lies broadly upon the earth, so broadly.
It is Sunday in all hearts,
It is Sunday for all woes;
Holy Sunday far and wide!
