Mötet

Flickan satt en sommarafton,
Speglande sig sjelf i källan:
"Gode Gud, hvad jag är vacker!
Men hvad båtar mig min fägring,
Då den yngling, som jag älskar,
Icke ser mig, icke hör mig?
Ros, som blommar vid min sida,
Tag du mina läppars rodnad!
Purpurstänkta moln i luften,
Tag du mina kinders purpur!
Bleka stjerna ofvan molnet,
Tag du mina ögons klarhet!
Sist, o graf, tag hvad som lemnas!"

Detta har den skälmska gossen
Lyssnat till i närmsta buske,
Och han springer fram till henne,
Just den sökte, just den funne.
Men han kysste hennes läppar:
"Nu tog rosen läppens rodnad!"
Och han smög sin kind till hennes:
"Nu tog molnet kindens purpur!"
Och han såg i hennes öga:
"Nu tog stjernan ögats klarhet!"
Och han slog sin famn kring henne:
"Nu tog grafven hvad som lemnats;
Ty, o flicka, det är grafven,
Hvarur ingen mera slipper."

La rencontre

Par un après-midi d'été une fille était assise,
et se mirait dans la fontaine :
« Seigneur Dieu, que je suis jolie !
Mais à quoi me sert ma beauté
Quand le jeune homme que j'aime
Ne me regarde ni ne m'écoute ?
Rose qui fleuris à côté de moi,
Prends le rouge de mes lèvres !
Nuage du ciel, éclaboussé de pourpre,
Prends le pourpre de mes joues !
Pâle étoile au-dessus du nuage,
Prends la clarté de mes yeux !
Et puis, ô tombeau, prends ce qui reste ! »

Cela, le malicieux garçon
L'avait entendu depuis le buisson d'à côté,
Et de là il sauta près d'elle,
Sitôt cherchée, sitôt trouvée.
Mais il embrassa ses lèvres :
« La rose a pris le rouge de la lèvre ! »
Et il frotta sa joue contre la sienne :
« Maintenant le nuage a pris le pourpre de la joue ! »
Et il regarda dans ses yeux :
« Maintenant l'étoile a pris la clarté des yeuxl ! »
Et il referma ses bras autour d'elle :
« Maintenant le tombeau a pris ce qui reste ;
Car, ô fille, c'est un tombeau
D'où personne ne s'échappe plus. »
