Ensliga sken,
flamma, som stjärnornas ren,
ljus från min fädernehärd,
tindrar i natten du än?
Glada, förtroliga värld,
väntar du vandrarn igen?

Dagen är all
mörk är min bana och kall,
dyster i skogarna här
vintern, den isiga, rår:
ljus, där du tindrar, o där
finner jag kärlek och vår.

Skynda din gång,
lycklige! Kanske en gång
kommer du åter och ser
stum mot ditt fädernetjäll;
ljus är din hydda ej mer,
kulen och ödslig din kväll.

Lueur solitaire,
flamme pure comme les étoiles,
lumière du foyer de mes pères,
scintilles-tu encore dans la nuit ?
Terre heureuse, familière,
attends-tu encore le voyageur ?

Le jour est fini,
mon chemin est sombre et froid,
ici les forêts sont lugubres,
l'hiver glacial y règne :
lumière, là-bas tu scintilles, ô là-bas
je trouverai l'amour et le printemps.

Presse ton pas,
bienheureux ! Peut-être un jour
reviendras-tu et regarderas-tu
en silence le foyer de tes pères ;
Cette lumière n'est plus ta chaumière,
ton soir est gris et solitaire.
