Recitativo:
 Nel dolce dell'oblio, benchè riposi,
 la mia Filli adorata
 veglia coi pensier suoi.
 E in quella quiete Amor non cessa mai,
 con varie forme,
 la sua pace turbar mentre elle dorme.

Aria:
 Giacchè il sonno a lei dipinge
 la sembianza del suo bene,
 nella quiete nè pur finge
 d'abbracciar le sue catene
 Giacchè, etc.

Recitativo:
 Così fida ella vive al cuor che adora,
 e nell'ombra respira
 la luce di quel sol per cui sospira.

Aria:
 Ha l'inganno il suo diletto
 se i pensier mossi d'affetto,
 stiman ver ciò che non sanno.
 Ma se poi si risveglia a un tale errore
 il pensier ridica a noi:
 ha l'inganno il suo dolore.

 Ook al rust mijn aanbeden Phyllis 
 in de zoete vergetelheid, 
 met haar gedachten waakt zij; 
 en in die sluimer, terwijl zij slaapt, 
 verstoort Amor onophoudelijk 
 op tal van manieren haar vrede.

Aria
 Want de slaap schildert haar 
 de gestalte van haar geliefde.
 In de sluimer meent zij werkelijk 
 zijn ketenen te omhelzen.
 Want de slaap...

Recitative
 Zo leeft zij trouw aan de lieveling 
 die zij aanbidt en in de duisternissen (van de kerker?) 
 ademt hij het licht van die zon (=Phyllis) om wie hij zucht.

Aria
 De zinsbegoocheling brengt genoegen 
 wanneer de gedachten, door liefde bewogen, 
 dat wat ze niet kunnen weten voor waar houden.
 Maar als vervolgens men ontwaakt 
 uit een dergelijke dwaling, 
 dan zegt het verstand ons bij herhaling: 
 'zinsbegoocheling gaat met smart gepaard'.
