Der Wind weht über den Wald
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Der Wind weht über den Wald,
Wir sitzen im Wald in der Nacht,
Der rote Wein in den Gläsern lacht,
Unser Gesang in den Wipfeln hallt.

Im Waldkeller liegt der Wein --
Wo sind die Reben, die einst geblüht?!
Ihr erloschenes Sommerfeuer glüht
Aus dem dunklen Keller in uns hinein.

Bald liegen auch wir und sind tot,
Haben Erde in Mund und Hand.
Aber die Flamme, die uns gebrannt,
Brennt weiter und [flackert]1 rot.

The wind blows over the forest
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The wind blows over the forest,
We sit in the forest at night,
The red wine laughs in the glasses,
Our singing resounds in the treetops.

In the forest cellar the wine lies --
Where are the grape vines that once bloomed?!
Their extinguished summer-fire glows
From out the dark cellar into us.

Soon we, too, shall lie and be dead,
Shall have earth in mouth and hand.
But the flame that burned within us
Burns on and flares redly.
