Men from Hellas, Grieve for your hero! Botzaris’ heroic spirit Has left us; He died for the sake of our salvation. Look at his heroic life, And take his example, If freedom means more to you Than life! Soon we will defeat our tyrants. The bloody Turks Killed him, We have not lost the Star of freedom yet; Our Greek bloodlust has just become wilder. Your legend, Botzaris, Will always be alive; Your death upset All Hellenics’ hearts. May your body have died, your fame has not died. Farewell, immortal hero, Off you go to a remote place; Where a refuge is waiting for you Above the stars; Beg the Lord on behalf of your loyal friends.
