Säuselnde, düstre Freundinn, senke wieder
Wenn die Sonne hinabgestiegen und des
Tages Schwüle nicht mehr, den Schleyer über
Diese Gefilde.
 
Freundliche, stille Nacht! O trokne labend
Mir den Schweis von der Stirne, Küsse ihr die
Falten weg, verdräng aus dem Herzen manchen
Drükenden Seufzer.
 
Hart ist des Tages Arbeit, Ruhe aber
Bringt die schweigende Nacht und sanfte Kühlung
Ihren Fittig über die Erde breitend
Heiter und friedlich.
