by Joseph Karl Benedikt, Freiherr von Eichendorff (1788 - 1857)

Doch manchmal in Sommertagen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Doch manchmal in Sommertagen
Durch die schwüle Einsamkeit
Hört man Mittags die Thurmuhr schlagen
Wie aus einer fremden Zeit.

Und ein Schiffer zu dieser Stunde
Sah eine schöne Frau
Vom Erker schaun zum Grunde --
Er ruderte schneller vor Graun.

Sie schüttelt' die dunkeln Locken
Aus ihrem Angesicht:
"Was ruderst du so erschrocken,
Behüt' dich Gott, dich mein' ich nicht."

Sie zog ein Ringlein vom Finger,
Warf's tief in die Saale hinein:
"Und der mir es wiederbringet,
Der soll mein Liebster sein!"
