Cosí senza parlar dunque m'ascolti?
A chi parlo, infelice? a un muto marmo?
S'altro non mi vuoi dir, dimmi almen: «Mori!»
e morir mi vedrai.
Questa è ben, empio Amor, miseria estrema,
che sí rigida ninfa
[e del mio fin sí vaga,
perché grazia di lei
non sia la morte mia, morte mi neghi,]1
[né]2 mi risponda, e l'armi
d'una sola sdegnosa e cruda voce
sdegni di proferire
al mio morir.

Mas tú, severa más que nunca,
una chispa de piedad no sientes ya;
más te irritas cuanto más ruego.
¿De modo que me escuchas y no me hablas?
¿A quién habla este infeliz? ¿A un mudo mármol?
Si otra cosa no quieres decir, dime al menos: “¡Muere!”
y morir me verás.
En verdad, impío Amor, es esta una extrema infelicidad,
que tan inflexible ninfa,
tan equívoca en cuanto a mi final,
pues de ella es la gracia  
que mi muerte no sea, la muerte me niega,
ni me responde, y el arma
de su voz desdeñosa y cruel 
desprecia pronunciarse
por mi muerte.
