Dein Sammetpelzchen dir streicheln, Mit Allem, was deinem Herzen gefiel', In meinen Armen dir schmeicheln.

How you sit there, you lovely child, In front of your sparkling clean little house! When I look at you, I immediately think Of a small, cute little mouse. To be sure, your skin is white and rosy, But smooth as the fur of a mouse; You are agile and delicately built And as nimble as the little grey one. Your dark little eyes sparkle In your clever little face, And you have teeth as shiny and fine As the long-tailed little nipper. Upon your head a pair of roundish Mouse-ears listen, And your little paws are utterly Made for scampering and prancing. I would love to catch you, you lovely plaything! [Would love] to stroke your velvety pelt, In my arms I would like to gratify you With everything that your heart desires. Come, little mouse, my little mouse, oh only stay here, And we shall snack upon sweet things; Quietly I sneak up on you, Dear little mouse, only let yourself be captured!
