Jahrelang ertrug ich das Leid:
Fernsein vom Strahl deines Blickes.
Aber vom Riegel befreit
Jäh nun aufspringen sie weit,
Goldne Tore des Glückes!

Horch, es erbraust das Geläut
Wiedersehnzeit uns vom Turme!
Was mich geschmerzt und gefreut,
Flattert ins Weite verstreut,
Naht mein Held sich im Sturme.

Mein! -- Und das Zeitrad zerschellt
Stockend im Schöpfungsgetriebe,
Himmel und Erde zerfällt,
Hoch aus dem Schutte der Welt
Schlägt die Flamme die Liebe!

Mais maintenant libérées du verrou
Elles s'ouvrent soudain à toute volée,
Les portes d'or du bonheur !

Écoute, le carillon se met à sonner
Nos retrouvailles depuis le clocher !
Mes peines et joies
Voltigent et se dispersent au loin,
Mon héros s'approche à la hâte.

Le mien ! Et la roue du temps vole en éclat
Les rouages de l'univers s'arrêtent,
Le ciel et la terre s'écroulent,
Bien au-dessus des décombres du monde
Palpite la flamme de l'amour !
