Österns natt

Redan natten svept sin slöja
kring cypress och kring platan,
men de klara stjernor dröja
glänsande på himlens ban!

Hafvets vågor stranden smeka,
vinden kysser blommans blad,
och fontänens perlor leka
under skyddande arkad!

Blomsterdoften rikt bemänger
nattens flägt så mild och ljum,
och ett mystiskt välljud tränger
från Seraljens dolda rum!

I den gyllne pelarsalen
hvilar herrskaren i glans,
pipan ljuder och Cymbalen,
odalisken trår sin dans!

Kärleksgudar luftigt väfva
stoff till hennes skira drägt.
Och lik fjäriln ses hon sväfva
lätt som vestanvindens flägt!

Nu har nattens täta slöja
jorden sänkt i dunkelhet,
men från himlen glans ses dröja,
på en gyllne minaret.

Idän yössä

Yö on jo kietonut huntunsa
sypressin ja plataanin ympärille,
mutta kirkkaat tähdet  jaksavat
vieläkin hohtaa taivaallisilla radoillaan!

Meren aallot hyväilevät rantaa,
tuuli suutelee kukan lehteä,
ja suihkulähteen kuplat leikkivät
suojassa lehväholvin alla.

Kukkien tuoksu sekoittuu rikkaana
lempeään ja lauhaan yötuuleen,
ja mystinen sulosointu leviää
Seraljin salaisista kammioista!

Kultaisessa pylvässalissa
lepäilee hallitsija keskellä loistoa,
huilu soi ja cymbaalikin,
odaliski haluaa tanssia!

Rakkaudenjumalat kutovat läpikuultavan
kankaan hänen harsomaista pukuaan varten.
Ja hän näyttää leijailevan perhosen lailla
kevyesti kuin länsituulen henkäys!

Nyt on yön tiivis huntu
vajottanut maan pimeyteen,
mutta taivaan hohde viipyilee vielä
kultaisessa minaretissa.
