Zu spät! Es führt keine Brücke mehr
Zur seligen Insel hinüber,
Die Zeit der reuigen Wiederkehr
Des verlorenen Sohns ist vorüber.

Zu spät! - So segelt vom Sturm gepackt
Das Schiff der entgleisten Gesellen
Mit Tanzmusik und mit Flittern beflaggt
Ohne Steuer über die Wellen.

Le navire des compagnons dévoyés,
Au son de musiques de danse, pavoise
Sur la vague sans timonier.
