Vom Blitz erhellt,
Und durch die dumpfe, schwüle Nacht
Der Donner kracht,
Doch Meeres Grollen,
Des Sturmes Schwall,
Des Donners Rollen,
Das Heulen der Elemente all
Wird übertäubt,
Wird überlacht
Von jedem Wort
Das mich so elend macht --
"Vergiß mich, Harold!"

The clouds race across the canopy of heaven,
Illumined by lightning,
And through the gloomy, humid night
Thunder cracks,
But the grumbling of the sea,
The gusting of the storm,
The rolling of the thunder,
The howling of all the elements
Is drowned out,
Is laughed over
By every word
That makes me so miserable --
"Forget me, Harold!"
