Klage
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT
Ein steter Kampf ist unser Leben,
Sein Wert Gefühl;
Wir ahnen, wünschen, hoffen, streben,
Und sind am Ziel!

Oft keimt aus allen unsern Tränen
Kein Glück uns auf,
Oft schließt mit ungestilltem Sehnen
Sich unser Lauf.

Des Lebens Strom rauscht wild und trübe
Durch Wüstenei'n,
Wir träumen Freundschaft, schwärmen Liebe,
Und steh'n allein!

Wir lieben, ach! Und sollten hassen
Zu unserm Glück.
Was wir mit Innigkeit umfassen,
Stößt uns zurück.

Verkannt, verachtet und betrogen
Um Trost und Ruh',
Schließt sich das Herz, zu hart belogen
Auf ewig zu.

Das Traumbild seliger Gefühle
Schwebt himmelwärts;
Nichts bleibt uns treu, sind wir am Ziele,
Als unser Schmerz!

Confirmed with Carl Müchler's Gedichte, neueste Auflage, Wien: B. Ph. Bauer, 1817. Appears in Fünftes Buch, pages 107 - 108.

Klacht
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Gestage strijd, dat is ons leven,
Zijn loon: gevoel;
Wij denken, wensen, hopen, streven
En zijn bij ’t doel!

Vaak komt uit tranen op de wangen
Geluk niet voort,
Vaak sluit met ongestild verlangen
Zich onze poort.

Des levens stroom raast wild en wazig
Door ’n jungle heen,
Wij dromen vriendschap, overdadig,
En staan alleen!

We minnen, ach! We moesten haten
Voor ons geluk.
Wat wij tot onze ziel toelaten,
Het maakt ons stuk.

Miskend, veracht en zelfs bedrogen,
Bedrukt en moe,
Sluit zich het hart, te hard belogen,
Voor altijd toe.

De droom van zalig welbehagen
Verdwijnt in ’t niet;
Niets blijft ons trouw, op ’t eind der dagen,
Dan ons verdriet!
