by Paul Bourget (1852 - 1935)

Pourquoi ?
Language: French (Français)
Pourquoi cet amour insensée
N'est-il pas mort avec les plantes
Qui l'enivraient, l'été passé,
D'odeurs puissantes et troublantes ?

Pourquoi la bise, en emportant
La feuille jaunie et fanée
N'en a-t-elle pas fait autant
De mon amour de l'autre année ?

Les roses des rosiers en fleur,
L'hiver les cueille et les dessèche ;
Mais la blanche rose du cœur,
Toujours froissée, est toujours fraîche.

Il n'en finit pas de courir
Le ruisseau de pleurs qui l'arrose,
Et la mélancolique rose
N'en finit pas de refleurir.
