Girl: Tie up your bundle for hiking, do not look back at me: with luck I’ll soon be in the arms of another. Some are quietly devoted to me, many are freely available: I can live without you, I can be without you. Boy: How can you say such a farewell, I’m glad to leave your suffocating house and my little horse will carry me into the beautiful world. Blue mountains bearing vines, green vines producing wine: I can live without you, I can be without you. Girl: Oh, my love, can you part without regard and without a word? I can spurn all the others but I will not let you go. Others have nothing to give me, all I have is yours: I cannot live without you, I cannot be without you. Boy: Darling, can I believe it, I shall not leave before I have to: all the juice of the sweetest grapes is not as sweet as your kiss. Everything else can be put on hold, Mountain and valley and sunshine: I cannot live without you, I cannot be without you.
