Once, sweet tranquility and golden peace Resided in my heart; Now, ever since we parted, wistfulness, ah! Tempers every joy. I keep hearing the hour of your departure resound, Dull and hollow, To me the evening song of nightingales sounds Like your farewell. Wherever I go, before my eyes floats Your lovely image, Which with anxious yearning and delight Fills my heart. To your beautiful soul, evermore will Love send this entreating plea: "Ah, Friend, whom I chose from all the others on earth, Forget me not!" Whenever a little breeze should twist your hair In the moonlight, That is my spirit, beseeching you in a whisper, "Forget me not!" Should you ever yearn for me in the light of the full moon As zephyrs are blowing, Through the breeze their music will ring out to you: "Until we see each other again!"
