Hier zur Stunde der Gespenster geh' ich um in Mitternacht; lausch, o Liebchen, komm ans Fenster, flieh mit mir des Hüters Macht! Still! Ich höre Leute! Schnell zum Schein das Horn genommen! Zwölf ist die Glock'! Leute, bei Nacht halt' ich hier Wacht. Legt euch zur Ruh' und drückt die Augen zu! Liebchens Licht, ach, seh' ich winken; sei gegrüßt, du holder Stern! An dein Herz o lass mich sinken, bleibe mir nicht ewig fern!
