by François Joseph Pierre André Méry (1798 - 1865)

Ô Vénus la blonde
Language: French (Français)
Dans Milo, mon ile natale,
J'ai pris le marbre le plus beau,
Le plus pur que la Grèce étale
Pour le palais, pour le tombeau.
Sur le bloc de pierre
Mon ciseau doutait,
J'étais en prière,
Vénus écoutait !
Ô Vénus la blonde,
Qui sortis de l'onde
Pour charmer le monde
Et sourire aux Dieux,
Du marbre sonore
Que le soleil dore,
Sors vivante encore
Pour charmer nos yeux !
Exilé loin d'elle
Mon ciseau fidèle
Cherchait un modèle
Et cherchait en vain,
Quand, perçant la nue,
Céleste inconnue,
Vous êtes venue
Du séjour divin !
