Nie werd ich diese wundervolle Nacht
Vergessen, da der Vollmond seine Strahlen
Uns bis zum taubeglänzten Morgen lieh.
Wir waren ganz allein; kein Späher hatte
Sein Aug auf uns, – und silbern lief der Strom
Mit Flüstern durch den stillen Schoß der Nacht.

Und dann erschien die Morgenröte: herrlich
Wie funkelnde Rubine, und der Strom
Trieb goldne Fluten durch das blühende Land!
