O vor' en herdeflicka jag
Language: Danish (Dansk)  after the Finnish (Suomi)
O vor’ en herdeflicka jag,
så fri från sorg och kval
jag skulle ständigt sjunga
i skogens gröna sal:
ja, hela dagen skulle
så glad min drill jag slå,
att göken själv blev narrad
att stämma in också.

Ack, länge nog jag väntat har
att höra gökens röst;
då skulle bittra kvalen
försvinna ur mitt bröst,
så tänkte jag och bidde –
och nu har våren grytt,
men ack, utur mitt hjärta
likväl ej sorgen flytt.

Nu sjunger lilla fågelen
och göken ropar jämnt,
men när till dem jag lyssnar,
blir hjärtat så beklämt,
och bittra hjärtesorgen
blir därvid endast ny,
och kvalen bliva tyngre
i stället för att fly.
