An Unglück
Language: Bavarian (Boarisch)
A lusti jungs Diendl,
dees hat amal g'fragt,
wo d'Lieb waar zu'n kaafa;
Ja, Narr, hon i g'sagt,
was werst es denn kaafa,
du nimmst es bei mir,
da kost's di koan Kreuzer,
i steh' dir dafür.
Sagt's Diendl: Bei dir, na,
da kaaf i nit ei,
was d' gar a so wohlfi gibst,
werd net viel sei.
A so is der Hand'l!
No wo', hon i denkt,
mei Lieb ko schon aufschlag'n,
werd nimmer verschenkt.
Da hon i wohl aufg'schlag'n
und raar damit to,
jetzt is 's ihna z'teuer g'west,
dees hast davo.
Ja Bua, um a Diendl,
da is's wohl a G'schpiel,
Den' oan tuast z'weni,
den andern tuast z'viel.
Und 's is scho mei Unglück,
i bring's halt nit zamm
und ko's nit d'erraten,
wie dass se's gern hamm.

A real pity
Language: English  after the Bavarian (Boarisch)
A young and merry lass
asked me once
where love could be bought;
"Hey, stupid," I said,
"why buy it,
when thou canst have it from me?
It will cost you not a penny,
I guarantee that!"
Quoth the lass: "From thee? No,
I'll not buy in thy shop!
If thou givest it thus cheap,
then there's not much to it!"
So that's how the bargain goes?
Well, well, I thought,
then I'll increase the price,
I'll not give it as a gift!
So I increased the price
and presented it as something special,
and now it was too expensive -
that's what you get!
My dear boy, with lasses
it is difficult to deal;
for some of them you do too little,
for others you do too much.
It is a real pity
that I always fail
and am never able to guess
how they really like it!
