Tu dors, Daphnis, sur les feuilles qui jonchent la plaine,
ton corps fatigué repose. Et les pieux que tu as plantés
naguère sont encore sur la montagne. Mais voici que Pan et Priape, 
qui couronne avec le lierre sa tête charmante, te donnent chasse.
Ils pénètrent d'un même élan dans ta grotte.
Va-t'en! Va-t'en! et secoue le sommeil qui t'engourdit déjà.
