Des Apfelbaumes Frühlingstraum
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Sieh, nun schmückt mit tausend Blüthen
Sich vorm Haus der Apfelbaum,
Selbst sein müdes altes Herze
Träumt noch einen Frühlingstraum.

Und ich selber, jung und blühend,
Sollte ohne Wünsche sein?
Nein, auch meine Augen träumen
Sehnend in den Lenz hinein.

Confirmed with Anna Ritter, Gedichte, Neunte Auflage, Stuttgart und Berlin: J.G. Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger, 1900, page 166.

The apple tree's springtime dream
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Lo, the apple tree in front of the house
Is adorning itself with a thousand blossoms,
Even its weary old heart
Is still dreaming a springtime dream.

And I myself, young and blooming,
Should be without wishes?
No, my eyes, too, are dreaming
Yearningly into the springtime.
