sometimes misattributed to Aloys Wilhelm Schreiber (1761 - 1841) and by Christian Schreiber (1781 - 1857)

Religion
  Dein Herz dir unbekannte Sehnsucht trägt;
Was dich hinaufzieht zu verwandten Fernen,

  Erhabener Empfindung Flug dich lenkt,

  Des Trostes Stimme freundlich dir genaht;

In this edition, the poem shown is titled "Religion" and is attributed only to "Schreiber". It appears to be the closest to Emile Zumsteeg's text, but the text can also be found in other anthologies with no title and some additional variations not shown above, such as Teutona. In this edition, the poem is attributed to Christian Schreiber; however, Emilie Zumsteeg's score indicates the author to be Alois Schreiber. We can find no primary source that agrees with the score's attribution so we have indicated this as a misattribution. Please note: the 1811 Taschenbuch has a typo we have corrected using the punctuation of the second volume cited above (stanza 2, end of the fourth line) : we have changed a period to a colon.

1 Zumsteeg: "zu"
