Das Mädchen im Garten

The girl in the garden
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Today it is a year ago since he stood
At the hedge greeting me,
And I, as now, in this arbour here
Twined a nosegay.
Still, still in my ears there sounds
His voice so sweetly:
"A little flower from you could bring to me
A paradise!"
Then, oh then, what
A foolish thing I was
That I did not give him that upon which
His heart was set!
Ah! if he came once more, once more yonder
From out of the woods,
I would give him so gladly, so gladly
The entire nosegay!
