Oh see! upon the border of the firmament Lovely springtime clouds are once more scudding! Ah, are you finally coming down to us, Radiant, long yearned-for spring? How, in the roaring of the storm, The birdlets shiveringly watched for you! How, in mute sorrow, the poor flowers Waited for you under the snow! It almost seemed as if you had forgotten the world, And that winter had remained victorious! But this was their comfort: From all eternity God knows the right time for all things! And now -- every sorrow is forgotten, And everything that can blossom and sing Wishes to make an offering of joy to God, And all that can surge and beam Wishes to pay him pledges of gratitude! Oh, if one could fully understand the song That now, in springtime, passes through the world! Ah, swing yourself heavenwards as well, And join in the rejoicing, oh human heart! With the sparkling sun, the blue of the sky, With the surging river, the green of the meadow, With the lark in the air, the star of the flower, Rejoice and sing to the Lord God!
