Gebet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Ein Tag wie hundert andre auch --
Und doch liegts wie ein leiser Hauch
Darüber.
Der Herrgott geht im Sonnenschein
An meinem Mädchenkämmerlein
Vorüber.

Ich sinke auf die Dielen hin,
Ist mir ein Beten tief im Sinn
Gelegen:
"Herr, Einer ist, dem bin ich gut --
Führ' du, was heimlich in mir ruht,
Zum Segen!"

Confirmed with Anna Ritter, Befreiung. Neue Gedichte, Fünfte Auflage, Stuttgart: J.G. Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger, 1900, page 4.

Prayer
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A day like a hundred others, too --
And yet something, like a quiet breath,
Rests upon it.
The Lord God walks in the sunshine
Past my maidenly
Chamber.

I sink down upon the floorboards,
Deep into my mind a praying has
Descended:
"Lord, there is one of whom I am fond --
May Thou lead that which rests secretly in me
To be a blessing!"
