Schweizerwappen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Weisses Kreuz im roten Feld,
Bild das jedem wohlgefällt.
Hoch geehrt in allen Gauen,
Bis wo Jura's Berge blauen
Und des Rheines Welle fliesst,
Schweizerwappen, sei gegrüsst!

Nachts auf Grütli's stiller Flur,
Schwebt zu Gott ein heilger Schwur:
Fremdes Joch nicht zu ertragen,
Fremde Vögte zu verjagen,
Dort gelobten's kampfbereit
Freie Männer mit dem Eid.

Kleinen Volks vereinte Kraft
Hat mit Gott den Sieg verschafft;
Vor des weissen Kreuzes Zeichen
Mussten grosse Heere weichen,
Heldenmut und Einigkeit
Hat von Feinden uns befreit.

Sei darum dies Wappenbild
Je des Schweizers Ehrenschild!
An die Tugend tapfrer Ahnen
Soll es stets die Enkel mahnen,
Und sein Ruf an alle sei:
Eidgenossen bleibet treu!

Swiss coat of arms
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
White cross on a red background,
Image that is pleasing to everyone.
Highly honoured in all counties,
To where Jura's mountains stand blue
And the wave of the Rhine flows,
Greetings to you, Swiss coat of arms!

At night upon the quiet meadows of Grütli,
A holy vow wafts toward God:
Never to tolerate a foreign yoke,
To chase away foreign reeves,
There, ready for battle, free men
Promised with this oath.

The united strength of a small people
Has attained victory with God;
Before the sign of the white cross
Great armies had to fall back,
Courageous spirit and unity
Has freed us from [our] enemies.

May this coat of arms therefore be
The honourable shield of every Swiss man!
It must remind the grandchildren
Ever of the virtue of valiant ancestors,
And may its call to everyone be:
Confederates, remain faithful!
