Am Strande
Language: German (Deutsch)
Schifflein stößt vom Strande.
Fahr in Meer hinein!
Ich bleib auf dem Sande,
muß erst größer sein.
Dann, sollst du mal sehen,
werd ich ein Kadett,
mit des Windes Wehen
flieg ich um die Wett.
Über alle Meere
bis nach Feuerland!
Wenn ich wiederkehre,
bin ich schwarz gebrannt.

At the beach
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The little ship strikes out from the shore.
Sail off into the sea!
I shall stay on the sand,
for I must grow bigger first.
But then you shall see,
I will become a cadet,
I shall fly, racing
with the gusts of the wind.
Over all the oceans
all the way to Tierra del Fuego!
When I return
I shall be burned black.
