Am Meer

Unendlich dehnt sich das brausende Meer.
Am Ufer knie einsam ich nieder,
Anbetend in Ehrfurcht den Geist, der so hehr
Im Meere auch spiegelt sich wider.
Dem spiele der Wellen folgt sinnend mein Blick,
Die zischend am Ufer sich bäumen:
Verlornes Leben, verlorenes Glück,
Verlorenes Leben und Träumen!
Von Wellen der Liebe, von Wellen der Lust
Die Schwestern mir scheinen zu sprechen,
Ob hier nun die Wellen, ob dort in der Brust
Gefühle sich bäumen und brechen.
Im Meer wie im Herzen folgt Ebbe und Flut,
Ein ewiges Kommen und Gehen,
Was wild erst sich bäumet in trotzigem Mut,
Muß leise vergehen, verwehen.

Infinit s’estén el mar bramulant.
Solitari, m’agenollo a la costa,
venerant amb respecte l’esperit que tan sublim
s’emmiralla també al mar.
Absort, el meu esguard segueix el joc de les ones
que xiulant s’alzinen a la costa:
vida perduda, felicitat perduda,
perduts la vida i els somnis!
De les ones de l’amor, de les ones del delit,
les seves germanes semblen parlar-me,
tal com ara aquí les ones, com allà al pit,
els sentiments s’alzinen i es trenquen.
Al mar, com en el cor, les marees
segueixen un etern vaivé,
el que primer s’alzina amb obstinada bravor,
desprès ha de perir, esvair-se.
