Die Schlummernde

Eingewiegt von Nachtigallentönen
Schlummert sie, die Königin der Schönen!
Frischer blüht der Thron der Königin;
Weste wehn ihr Opferdüfte hin.
 
Lächle sanft! Mit hohen Engelmienen
Ist die That des Tages dir erschienen.
Strecke froh die schönen Händ' empor!
Denn sie hält dir ihre Palme vor.
 
Aber war's ein zitterndes Verlangen?
Lächelt Lieb' auf diesen Rosenwangen?
Und war ich's, der dir, o Lächelnde
Thränenvoll vorüberschwebete?
 
O so schweigt, ihr Nachtigallenchöre,
Daß kein Laut den schönen Traum zerstöre!
Oder wählt den Laut, durch den besiegt,
Näher stets das blöde Weibchen fliegt.
