by Adolf Holst (1867 - 1945)

Wanderschwäne
Language: German (Deutsch)
Meine scheuen Lieder,
Die sind wie wilde Schwäne:
Sie brausen über Meere
Und finde keine Heimat.

Verwunsch'ne Königskinder,
Sie tragen nachts ihr Krönlein
Und morgens überm Schneekleid
Den Tau in Herzbluttropfen.

Hörtest du je sie tönen,
Die purpurweißen Schwingen,
Wie sie die Wolken schlugen
Im Brausen ihrer Sehnsucht --

Und dröhnten an die Sterne?
Ach, falte brünst'ge Hände,
Daß Gott sie bald erlöse,
Daß sie die Heimat finden!

Confirmed with Adolf Holst, Sternschnuppen, Berlin: G. Grote'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1902. Part of series, Neue deutsche Lyriker, ed. by Carl Busse, vol. II, page 143.
