Es glüht die Flur, es glänzt der Hain,
Dampf wallt am Bergeskamme; 
Welch Farbenspiel, welch heller Schein, 
Als säh' ich Flamm' auf Flamme! 

Vom Himmel strömt des Lichtes Flut 
Herab in Strahlenwellen; 
Die Sträucher sind voll Scharlachglut, 
Es knospt an tausend Stellen. 

Ich stehe andachtvoll von fern
Alswie vor Opfertischen,
Mir ist, als säh' ich Gott den Herrn 
In diesen Feuerbüschen.

God's nearness

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

The meadow glows, the grove gleams,
Mist floats upon the crest of the mountain;
What a play of colours, what a bright radiance,
As if I were seeing flame upon flame!

Downward from Heaven flows 
The flood of light in waves of radiance;
The shrubs are filled with crimson glow,
Buds are sprouting in a thousand places.

I stand reverently from afar
As if before sacrificial tables,
It seems to me as if I were seeing the Lord God
In these fiery bushes.
